Lillian, an emigrant stranded in New York City, decides to walk back to her native Russia. An existential road movie across the US and Canada. A chronicle of a slow disappearance.

A filmic accompaniment to Isaac Schwartz's concerto, Yellow Stars, inspired by writings from the Kovno Jewish ghetto. Performed by the National Philharmonic of Russia.

4-channel video installation at Zacheta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw, Poland, Nov. 2002-Jan. 2003.  A collaboration with visual artist, Jadwiga Sawicka.

Documentary irected & produced by Joan Grossman & Paul Rosdy, US/Austria, 79 min.

 

A collage of stunning archival footage.... the film succeeds in conveying the peculiar combination of relief and espair that developed as these stateless exiles eluded European concentration camps only to be deposited in a seething metropolis largely controlled by Hitler's allies.

Produced with HBO and Austrian television, broadcast internationally and screened at more than 40 film festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival. Music by John Zorn, soundtrack released on Tzadic Records.
